What we can do for you?
Education, Peace Building and Conflict Resolution:
We engage in educational advocacy, skill acquisition, mass youth literacy, youth empowerment and training. This involves having Elixir Smart Clubs in Schools with curriculum that aids them with skills and knowledge not captured in their educational curriculum. Talk shows with Youths on sensitive issues affecting them Conflict resolution: we deal with early warning signs, crises intervention/management, through peacebuilding engagements, mediation, as well as capacity building for Youth4Peace defenders. (SDGs 4)
Human Rights and Gender:
Promoting the rights of marginalized population is at the core of our work. We work actively in criminal justice reforms through capacity building for the police, correctional officers etc. We have organized Youth and Police engagements to address issues of human rights abuses, have a working relationship with Police Complaint Response Unit (P-CRU). We have also carried out researches on police compliance with ACJA, Police Knowledge on Anti-torture Act 2017 as well as the Police Act 2020. We have trained correctional Officers and stakeholders on the Nigerian Correctional Service Act, (NCSA) 2019 as well as implemented Section 12 of the NCSA 2019. We also carryout monthly documentation of human right abuses, sexual gender base violence by citizens especially law enforcement officers in Nigeria and also offer legal services for victims. Tech and Empowerment:
Youth empowerment is at the Core of our work because an empowered youth will be more useful to the society, stand for his right, refuse to be used and abused. Most especially as these youths would be more valuable in providing solutions to problems. (SDGs and 9)
Governance and Elections:
Good governance and elections is what we wish for, we engage to promote good governance, transparency and accountability. In 2019 and 2023 elections we engaged in Civic education as well as provided information for voter registration, participation, elections and monitoring of policy implementation by the government. (SDGs 1, 2, 8 &; 11)
Health (Hepatitis, Malaria, STI/AIDs, Diabetes and Mental Health):
Physical and mental wellbeing is something we all desire and need but most time we don’t have access to. We have in the past carried out outreaches (Counseling and Testing) on HIV/AIDs, Malaria, Hepatitis to communities, schools, displaced populations (IDP Camps) in different States in Nigeria. We encourage people to carryout monthly checkup (Physical, mental, spiritual etc). There has been increase in mental health issues in the country, with also increment in rate of drug abuse. (SDGs 3)
Strategies
Networking
Elixir has always promoted the networking with other NGOs, CBOs, CSOs, media groups and concerned stakeholders for achieving the goal of sustainable development. Networking with other organizations has always proved very productive by playing as medium between the service providers and those at the receiving end. Networking basically provides opportunity for looking at the issues from different angles i.e., from local, national and finally at regional level. At every level the perspective of issue changes, which then helps in comprehending the issue.
Service delivery
Elixir is staunch believer in a very strong and efficient service delivery in the fields of health, Human Rights, education, WASH and environment. For this purpose, Elixir management has always delivered services in the communities in a transparent manner taking care of quantity and quality. It is only because of this very reason that the Elixir interventions have always helped in meeting the community needs and achieving the desired objectives.
Sports (PSS) and Entertainment:
Two critical areas of interest to youths and women are Sports and entertainment, outside it been a source of recreation, relaxation, it is also a medium of empowerment for young people. But overtime we have also realized that it has also being medium were young persons have been abused from pageantry, football, music and most times these young ones cannot voice it out without fear of their employers, company’s managing them or their events. So many has been extorted, raped, coerced to do horrible crimes and many also has been lost in the process. (SDGs 8)
Advocacy
Elixir in achieving better results in the field of community development believes in advocacy and therefore, the management has always strongly advocated for the issues related to Elixir. For achieving this objective, Elixir through its strong advocacy has approached the line departments of Government, NGOs, CBOs, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), members of the community, notables and Elixir has always promoted the right based approach and supported the dialogue as an important tool for achieving the above-mentioned objectives.
